Chrome wheels tend to
loose their ability to seal at the bead
seat. The chemicals used in plating are very
toxic. When you mount a tire on a chrome rim
the rubber does not allow the rim to breathe
the toxins away. They are sealed to the rim
by the rubber this causes the chrome to
flack and this effect builds up more and
more corrosion over a period of time. The
layering of this corrosion pushes the rubber
of the tire away from the rim and it starts
leaking air. This process cannot be
prevented. All chrome rims will exhibit this
action eventually. To get additional life
from the wheels we heavily grind the
corrosion away. We then paint the entire
seat area. There is no guarantee this will
be a lasting repair. We had great results
with this method. With almost no failures
but the corrosion will always return. It may
take months or years. |
