Bends are a common
repair done to alloy wheels. Potholes are
usually the cause. When it rains the
potholes fill with water and we cannot
distinguish them so we drive into them at
full speed. Repairing bends are closely
guarded secrets. Every wheel company does it
a little differently. Most of the equipment
designs fabricated by a shop are never
shared with anyone. Wheel Worx also has
their own way of correcting bends. We have
an air over hydraulic system that employees
multiple cylinders to push and pull in
several directions at one time, while the
hub remains stationary, thus reversing the
effects of a bend. The wheels are lightly
heated, using an infrared temperature gun
maintain the correct temperature, allowing
the molecules to relax so they retain no
memory of the damage. A properly repaired
wheel is a very safe wheel. We have never
had a failure. We do not attempt to repair
borderline damage. |
